Offer updated on 11/30/2021
A collection of six black and white photos, three measuring between 6 x 8" and 8 x 10", plus three smaller format images. Together with a letter and envelope from the Southern Bridge Company in Alabama, to H.S. Haynes of Marshall, North Carolina, discussing the construction of a bridge. The accompanying photos appear to be samples of the "Marsh Rainbow Arch Bridge", a type of design offered by the company--two of the depicted bridges are located in Iowa, one is in Mankato, Minnesota, and the other is likely in Illinois (the image bears a Carmi, Ill photographer's stamp). The images are accompanied by two notes by an owner in the 1990s--one mentions that the bridge was the first steel suspension bridge covered with concrete, the other discussing the estate sale at which the photos were purchased. One image chipped with loss to upper portion, the rest in excellent condition with creasing here and there.
