Two volumes. 4to Volume I Pp , 369. First edition of the collected poems, published the year before the authors death. [together with] Volume II, printed for the Executor to the late C. Churchill 1765. 4to: [iv] 19 19 48 24 32 31 38 24 33 28 8. The curious pagination of the second volume is explained in that his brother, who was the executor, appears to have brought together the separate issues of his poems as a single volume, replacing the title pages with part titles. Signed J Churchill to the foot of the final leaf, presumably as way to deter pirate copies. BOUND IN CONTEMPORARY MATCHING FULL CALF, raised bands, paneled boards, gilt with elaborate spine decoration, contrasting labels, edges marbled, marbled endpapers, edges gauffered, very slightly rubbed to head, but overall magnificent examples of eighteenth century binding technique at its best. ESTC T98756 and T98902.
