There, he wrote Hunting Trips of a Ranchman (1885) and Thomas Hart Benton (1887) and began work on The Winning of the West (1889). He also penned this account of big-game hunting in the United States, with chapters on hunting lore, hunting with hounds, hunting the grizzly, and hunting from the ranch.
